Not into Anal Sex? Do it like the Greeks!

image During the ancient Greek period, anal sex was considered demeaning for the receiving partner, today in Western societies gay men, particularly black gay men, still hold this belief. A common misnomer among gay men and heterosexuals alike is that every gay man well, has to take it up the butt. Surprisingly, a pretty remarkable number of gay men don’t participate in anal sex for either personal reasons or concerns regarding hygiene – which really is another post on its own. But if you find yourself disinterested in anal sex, and even oral sex – what’s next? Take it up the thigh. No really, take it up the thigh.

Intercrural sex has been proposed as an important part of the sexual lives of a handful of notable historical figures known or thought to have been homosexual or bisexual.

The practice has been a popular one during the medieval period since it wasn’t particularly condemned by Leviticus 18 or 20, otherwise known as the weapon of choice when homophobic religious people want to quote the Bible. The practice involves basically dry humping your partner’s lubricated upper thighs to the point of orgasm, it’s considered safer sex since there is no internal body fluid exchange, the only risk is posed if there are cuts or open sores present on the things, in which case –  yikes. Other forms of safer non penetrative sex include frottage, both partners rub or grind on each other to achieve orgasm, the option to wear clothes is entirely up to you.

Another option is mutual masturbation, because who doesn’t enjoy a helping hand. For those who want to take it a bit further, there’s rimming. Research shows this practice poses negligible risk for HIV transmission. Unprotected Rimming however carries another risk, infections. The digestive tract terminates at the anus. Digestive bacteria pass through it, notably E. coli, which may remain around the opening. Rimming might also transmit Shigella and Salmonella, which cause food poisoning. But among healthy, monogamous lovers who practice good anal hygiene, the infection risk of rimming is “extremely low.” To be on the safe side, practice rimming with a dental dam.

  2. “anal sex was considered demeaning for the receiving partner, today in Western societies gay men, particularly black gay men, still hold this belief.” This is according to whom??? I see and hear PLENTY of non-black gay men speak in a disparaging manner in relation to men who bottom, so why is this being made into a black, gay men’s specialization?
